About
I am a practical theologian interested in congregational studies, social justice and participatory approaches to theological research. I am best known as one of the co-originators of theological action research and the four voices of theology. I train people in the methodology and co-lead the associated network.
I enjoy supporting the early career researchers in college and seeing their research projects flourish. I am passionate about enabling excellent research and communicating that research to audiences within and beyond the university.
Research and Teaching
I co-ordinate the research cluster of colleagues in the college who undertake Qualitative Research in Theology and Religion. We meet termly and support one another in our research projects.
I am currently preparing to give and then publish the 2027 Didsbury Lectures on doing theology through conversations.
Through the Centre for Baptist Studies, I co-organised a Symposium on Congregational Studies in February 2025. This has resulted in a Special Issue of the journal Practical Theology and plans for another symposium in February 2028.
From 2021-24, I was co-lead and PI for Project Violet, a project exploring women’s experience of Baptist ministry, which is archived here.
I teach on the MTh in Applied Theology.
I am an associate member of the Faculty of Theology and Religion.
Responsibilities
As Director of Research, my purpose is to strengthen the distinctive ethos of Regent’s Park College as a research active community that is attractive to research funders, researchers and students.
This involves supporting the college as it hosts funded research projects, supporting colleagues as they plan and undertake research and guiding the college research community through the REF 2029 assessment exercise.
